NBI arrests fugitive drug trafficker

The National Bureau of Investigation on Thursday said bureau agents arrested a fugitive foreign national involved in illegal drugs trafficking.

NBI Director Dante Gierran identified the foreign national as Markis Scott Turner, also known as Filip Novak, an Australian national, who is facing criminal cases for drug trafficking in Australia.

Turner has been hiding in the Philippines for the last couple of years to evade prosecution.

Gierran said the Australian government sought the provisional arrest of Turner through the Secretary of the Department of Justice, pursuant to Article 9 of the Treaty of Extradition between Australia and the Republic of the Philippines (PH-AU Extradition Treaty).
