The Philippines and Singapore are looking at strengthening their bilateral agreement to include cooperation on electric vehicles, liquefied natural gas and renewable energy.

“We are looking at a lot of cooperation with Singapore, on waste to energy, solar, on top of water and many others,” Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said.

Energy Undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella said Cusi met with Singapore Trade and Industry Minister S. Iswaran on the possible areas of cooperation.

“We had bilateral meeting with Singapore. We talked about approaches on e-vehicles, steps towards LNG, more collaboration that we will make on RE, specifically on biomass, floating solar pv and battery,” Fuentebella said.

Fuentebella said the discussions revolved around the best approach on e-vehicles “considering that we have for example more than 25 percent of our electricity is coming from coal.”

He said Singapore was looking at a technology-neutral approach as far as e-vehicle was concerned as e-vehicle leader Tesla was very much interested in going to the Singapore market. “The Philippines is also pushing for e-vehicles especially for e-jeepney,” Fuentebella said.
