THE Quezon City government is promoting early childhood care and reading among young children.

The City Council has passed Resolution No. 7138, introduced by District 2 Councilor Aly Medalla, to strengthen implementation of the early childhood care and development of a curriculum in accordance with Republic Act 8980 or the Early Childhood Care Development Act.

The program stressed the importance of reading readiness skills of children in public day-care centers to prepare preschool children for the formal learning system.

The measure is supported by the early childhood care and development curriculum, which refers to “developmentally-appropriate educational objectives and practices” as well as programs and activities, well thought-out learning experiences through high-caliber learning materials, and appropriate assessment of children from age zero to four years.

It also puts emphasis on reading readiness among children, especially in a child’s early development, and encourages day-care centers to strengthen their reading programs by providing suitable reading materials, conducive-to-learning environment, parents and guardians’ participation, and teachers willing to help children acquire good reading skills.

Meanwhile, the city council passed Resolution 7113, authored by District 2 Councilor Precious Hipolito-Castelo, giving Mayor Herbert Bautista and the Tradition Homes Project Manager’s Development Inc. the authority to set certain portions of land in Barangay Payatas as a socialized housing site.

Tradition Homes, a private developer and builder, owns a 16,466-square-meter lot located in Area 4, Sitio Veterans, Barangay Payatas, also known as Lot 3 Pcs-324.

Tradition Homes is signing a joint venture with the Quezon City government for the development and construction of a two-story walk-up condominium on a portion of its property that measures 6,633 square meters, for the benefit of qualified informal settler families throughout Quezon City.

“The proposed socialized housing project shall be undertaken by the parties, with THPMDI as landowner, developer of the land and builder of the housing component of the project, and LGU-QC as originator-guarantor,” the resolution read.
