Inmates receive Tesda training

Almost 3,400 inmates received free skills training from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, as the program aims to give them a new lease on life.

In a previous memorandum of agreement signed by Tesda Director General Guiling Mamondiong and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, the skills training program for the inmates started last Dec. 13.

The same program was launched jointly by Tesda and BJMP at the Makati City Jail last Jan. 18. It was also launched at Puerto Princesa Jail on Feb. 8 and at Cebu City Jail last March 7.

The skills training in Region I reached 271 inmates; Region II, 245; III, 250; IV-A (Calabarzon), 582; IV-B, 322; V, 201; VI, 75; VII, 180; VIII, 122; IX, 358; X, 60; XI, 141; XII, 213; Caraga, 8; CAR, 27; NCR, 311. ARMM has yet to submit its list of inmates who received skills training.

Information was based on records submitted to Tesda Deputy Director General for Operations Alvin Feliciano.

Mamondiong encouraged prison personnel to disseminate the free skills training to the inmates to prepare them to become contributing members of the society after their release and live better lives.
