If you were a child of the ‘80s you wouldn’t forget the songs and images of the three teen-agers that dominated the airwaves and afternoon television and made you hum or sing and dance along with them

And then in the ‘90s, they had become the hottest teen stars of the era.

And who might they be? Naturally, their names still ring loudly even if younger stars (who can also dish out tunes from a videoke machine) are emerging and gradually elbowing these ladies on to the sidelines.

Persistence though is their ally, and they continue to hog the limelight.

Just recently, the three found themselves in a soap opera playing able support to the characters played by Barbie Forteza and the four hunks introduced to the audience of primetime drama – Ivan Dorsschner, Jak Roberto, Ken Chan, and Addy Raj. They were very happy to be cast alongside GMA Network’s rising stars, but most of all glad to be reunited with Keempee de Leon and Janno Gibbs.

On Sept. 9, fans of Tina Paner, Manilyn Reynes, and Sheryl Cruz are expected to fill up the Music Museum in Greenhills.

And, why not?

The three will own the theater’s center stage for their reunion concert called Triplets. As expected, the trio of friends is thrilled just at the thought of sharing the stage once more to make music and have fun. It’s a throwback to the days when they were the major attraction in the network’s studio at the Broadway building in Quezon City.

Indeed, Tina, Manilyn, and Sheryl re-live the glory days of their era in a fun-filled, nostalgia-laden performance. The concert brings back the youthful vibe of the winsome trio, the era’s leading lights on TV, movies, recording and live scene.

"Triplets" concert is happening on Sept. 9 at the Music Museum

Triplets is the ladies’ first formal reunion on stage in many years. It would be of interest to their fans and followers to get an update on how yesteryear’s teen idols have transformed into today’s mothers and drama actresses.

Individually, Tina, Manilyn, and Sheryl have amassed their own string of hit songs enough to fill up a major act.

In review, Tina is known for her songs: “Tamis Ng Unang Halik,” “Sana,” “Maayong Pasko,” and “Umiibig Ka Pala Sa Akin.”  Manilyn boast of the songs “Sayang Na Sayang,” “Ikaw Pa Rin,” “Feel Na Feel,” “Mr. Disco,” “Ingat Ka, Mahal Kita,” “Nandito Pa Rin,” and “Kulang Pa Ba.”

Sheryl Cruz’s hit songs include “Sabi Ko Na Nga Ba,” “Mr. Dreamboy,” “Ikaw Ang True Love Ko,” “Sagot Ng Puso,” “Walang Ganyanan,” and “Ako’y Iyong-Iyo.”

Expect to get a reboot of these pop hits of the glorious 90s in Triplets, the concert, a production of Striking Star Productions.

Triplet is directed by Frank Mamaril with musical direction by Gerry Matias. Of course, Ivan Dorschner, Jak Roberto, Addy Raj, Ken Chan will be there along with other surprise stars.

Vice Ganda is at it again. In the Miss Q&A portion of It’s Showtime last week, Vice took a swipe at rival station GMA Network saying, “Kung sinasabing ang GMA ay ‘Where you belong,’ bakit sila naglilipatan?”

Yes, he later said that it was just a joke. And for Kapamilya fans, this was Vice just doing what he does best – dishing out crass jokes, and never mind if he crosses the line. But for the rest, this was Vice in his usual insensitive self. Not to mention that former GMA talents Bela Padilla and Karylle were present during that particular segment. Interestingly, Vice’s co-host Anne Curtis appeared to be having so much fun. Wasn’t Anne a former Kapuso as well?

Just an observation to Vice’s gauche remark, he makes fun of other people and institutions he thinks the show would rate higher than its rival? What is more important is that hosts are imparting respect for other people and institutions.

If Vice is unaware, those he is referring to as “naglilipatan” to where he is are those that GMA Network did not renew their contracts. For what reason? Ask GMA, but don’t say things to imply they are doing better where they are now because they aren’t.
