SUBIC, Zambales—The Cawag Tribal Association has urged the Energy Regulatory Commission to act on the power supply agreement of the Redondo Peninsula Energy Inc. that has been pending with the commission since April 2016.

The group is an association of over 100 Aytas from Zambales currently residing in Barangay Cawag, Subic.

In a letter addressed to the ERC mommissioners, Ayta tribal chieftain Juanito Balosbalos expressed the group’s support to the planned 2×300-megawatt power plant of RP Energy in Barangay Cawag.

The letter, dated Aug. 2, acknowledged the pending approval of the PSA that RP Energy has been waiting to be able to proceed with the power plant.

“This is the reason why we are calling for the urgent approval of the said PSA,” said Balosbalos, who represented the association in the hearing for the PSA in November last year.

Balosbalos emphasized that RP Energy has been providing services for the Aytas and is initiating projects that will improve the lives of the tribal group.

“We believe that the success of RP Energy will also be the success of the residents in our area. In fact, even with the plant yet to be constructed, RP Energy already has a lot of programs that benefit our barangay,” he said.

As an important stakeholder for the project, Balosbalos believes that the ERC will consider the request and support coming from their association.
