OFF to a good start.

With its setback in last conference’s finals already behind, TNT KaTropa started its new campaign with a bang, taking down Kia, 106-96, in the 2017 Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup.

Michael Craig introduced himself to the league emphatically, showing the entire package by leading the Tropang Texters with a triple-double of 21 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists.

“We didn’t really know what to expect,” said TNT coach Nash Racela. “We prioritized rest over practice. I know that’s not enough, but for sure it will help them. The earlier we could learn to play with each other specifically the import, the better for us.”

TNT started on a high note for a 1-0 card, while Kia remained winless, falling to 0-3 for the tournament.

It was actually a tight start for both teams until the Tropang Texters took control of the game slowly but surely.

TNT KaTropa’s Kelly Williams elects to pass after his offensive lane was blocked by Kia’s Glenn Khobuntin in a PBA Commissioner’s Cup game won by the Texters, 106-96.

A 19-5 run in the waning minutes of the second frame gave TNT KaTropa its first twin-digit lead at 51-41, before settling for a 53-44 lead at the half.

The Tropang Texters never looked back as they remained safely in the driver’s seat until finally securing the victory.

Markeith Cummings led all scorers with 27 points and seven rebounds in another losing cause for the Picanto.

Action continues today as Philippine and Commissioner’s Cup champion San Miguel Beer starts its quest for a Grand-slam.

The Beermen will make their tournament debut against Blackwater Elite at 3 p.m. in the same venue.

Following this is an explosive clash between Meralco (2-0) and Rain or Shine (1-1) at 5 p.m.
