Power outage in Eastern Visayas may last from 1 to 2 weeks

It will take one to two weeks before power supply is restored in huge portions of Eastern Visayas.

This is the projection of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) following the earthquake that hit Leyte on Thursday.

As of Saturday, only three towns in Leyte have electricity.

Aside from this province, power outage also affects Bohol, Samar and Biliran.

Some barangays have installed generators and charging stations where residents may bring their cellular phones and other gadgets.

Residents are charged P 5.00 per phone.

Cracks along the roads from Tacloban City to Ormoc City were observed.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Spokesperson Romina Marasigan says, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is conducting an inspection on these roads.

The number of fatalities stands at two but Marasigan says, her office is confirming with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) if there is a third fatality, as reported by local sources.

The airport in Ormoc City has reopened as of today.

The information came from Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Spokesperson Eric Apolonio.
