The Philippine government on Friday offered prayers for the “healing and complete recovery” of Louisiana Representative Steve Scalise after he was shot by a left-wing activist, James Hodgkinson in Alexandria, Virginia field.
“The DFA offers our prayers for the healing and complete recovery of Rep. Steve Scalise and other victims of the shooting incident in the US today, and for their families,” the Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
On Thursday evening (Manila time) 25 Republican lawmakers, along with staff and some security personnel were having baseball practice for its annual charity game when Hodgkinson, 66 years old, appeared with a rifle and began firing 50 to 100 rounds.
Scalise, Congressional aide Zachary Barth, and lobbyist Matt Mika suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to the hospital.
The DFA also affirmed the country’s solidarity with the American people.
“We stand in solidarity with the American people in deploring this senseless act of violence, and join the calls for greater understanding, tolerance and unity among all peoples,” the DFA said.
