THE national squads in indoor hockey and net ball will go on their own to the 29th Southeast Asian Games.

Teams formed by their respective national sports associations will compete in the games without any support from the Philippine Sports Commission.

SEA Games task force head Tom Carrasco confirmed this after around 733 athletes, coaches and officials  have been listed to go to the Games.

“They’re all self-funded,” said Carrasco.

He explained that the said athletes being sent to the events are at the developmental level.

 There’s a 12-member national men’s team and 12-member women’s squad that’s been formed in indoor hockey.

On the other hand, a 12-member all-female squad has been assembled in handball.

The PSC is spending more than P50 million to get the national squad ready for the Games.

And the expenses are for equipment alone, executive director Carlo Abarquez said.

Focus on support for the national delegation’s needs is also being done to ensure the success of the Philippines’ campaign in the Games, according to Abarquez.
