Looting in some abandoned houses in Marawi City is apparently happening.
Police have caught 15 persons accused of stealing the belongings of families who have fled the city when fighting between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Maute group erupted.
Ten looters were nabbed on Thursday night while five others were arrested today.
The suspects have been turned over to the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation Division (PNP-CIDG).
Some of the looters were caught with pieces of women’s jewelry and cellular phones.
The police said the suspects obviously stole the cellular phones seized from them, as upon inspection at checkpoints, they could not identify the persons in the phone directory and the messages contained in the phone units.
