Six lawmakers have questioned before the Supreme Court President Rodrigo Duterte’s proclamation of martial law in Mindanao.

They said Proclamation Number 216 has no factual basis.

The lawmakers from the opposition bloc in the House of Representatives now want the high tribunal to void the proclamation.

The petitioners are lawmakers Edcel Lagman from Albay, Gary Alejano from Magdalo party-list, Teddy Baguilat Jr. from Ifugao, Emmanuel Billones from Capiz, Tom Villarin from Akbayan party-list and Edgar Erice from Caloocan City.

The House members from the opposition bloc say, there was no invasion in Marawi City.

They also claimed the Marawi siege was supposedly initiated by the military as it chased Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon and the Maute group fought back to prevent the soldiers from taking the terrorist commander.

The petitioners also alleged that the justifications cited in the martial law proclamation were mostly inaccurate.

The lawmakers added, “the proffered rebellion and/or invasion is at most threat akin to imminent danger,”  which is not a ground for the declaration of martial law.
