A former chief of the Land Transportation Office has joined mounting calls for the modernization and automation of the vehicle registration process.
Former LTO head Alberto Suansing, who is now an official of the Toll Regulatory Board and a leader of a non-government organization espousing road safety, said government should seriously consider proposals of various stakeholders.
“LTO should have gone online for its vehicle registration and driver’s license renewal a long time ago,” Suansing said.
The Philippine Road Board has also pushed for the modernization and automation plan for LTO.
The online car registration will simplify the procedure, thereby reducing red tape and expediting transactions within the agency.
The LTO has been surrounded by allegations of corruption and irregularities amid delays in releasing vehicle registration documents and driver’s licenses.
