Huey, new partner win opener

FIL-AMERICAN Treat Huey started  his campaign with new partner Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan on the right track.

The world no. 38 Huey and Istomin prevailed over Robin Haase of France and former partner Dominic Inglot, 7-6 (12-10), 3-6, 6-3, at the start of the  2017 French Open men’s doubles  at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France.

The unseeded pair of Huey and Istomin advanced to the second round against the duo of Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares, the fifth seeds, who repulsed Janko Tapsarevic and Viktor Troacki, 6-3, 7-6 (7-0).

Also moving into the next round are Spanish netters David Marrero and Tommy Robredo, who upset the top seeded pair of Henri Kontinen and John Peers, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

Last year, Huey was with  Max Mirnyi of Belarus.

They made it to  the Round-of-16, but bowed to French duo Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin, 4-6, 4-6.
