Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial is facing the hearing of the Commission on Appointments (CA).
She told the commission that she had devoted her life to public service right after she finished her studies.
“I started in government service after I stepped out of college,” she told the lawmakers.
“My strict approach to governance earned me enemies along the way,” she said.
At one point, Ubial shed tears as she became emotional.
Ubial also told the CA that she is dedicated to implementing President Duterte’s campaign against drugs and corruption.
She also stressed that her program is focused on helping the poor.
Kabayan Party-list group Harry Roque is among those who oppose Ubial’s nomination.
He accuses the secretary of incompetence and corruption.
He also alleges that she had lied in her testimonies to Congress several times.
