Senator Alan Peter Cayetano intends to deliver his valedictory speech at the plenary session of the Senate.
The session is at 3 in the afternoon.
On Wednesday morning, the Commission on Appointments (CA) approved his appointment as Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Senator and CA Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairperson Panfilo Lacson declared Cayetano’s confirmation in less than five minutes.
Lacson described the proceeding as “the shortest confirmation of a cabinet secretary.”
The new DFA Secretary was not yet even seated when his nomination was affirmed by CA.
Cayetano said he was touched by the warm gesture of his fellow lawmakers.
"I actually prepared an opening statement. But since you already… I always tell my brothers and team mates sa basketball, kapag umo-o na, huwag ka ng humirit pa. Baka humindi pa later on e," he told the panel, drawing laughter from the audience.
Nevertheless, he read his prepared short remarks.
Cayetano said his speedy and painless confirmation will serve as a reminder to him to do his best at the in his new post.
