The Department of Public Works and Highways is rushing the completion of a P41-million widening road  project along Commonwealth Avenue,  one of the busiest thoroughfares in Metro Manila.

DPWH-National Capital Region Director Melvin Navarro said three additional lanes along Commonwealth Avenue are being constructed, from Zuzurueggi Street to Vila Beatriz Street where some informal settler families reside.

The project involves the construction of sidewalk for the safety of pedestrians. The project is now 90 percent completed.

“We want to fully utilize our road space so we are closely coordinating with other government agencies and private entities for the soonest possible relocation of informal settler families and utilities in the project area,” Navarro said.

Informal settler families occupying the road right of way will be relocated to a government relocation site in Bulacan.

Meanwhile, the DPWH will resume its weekend road reblocking activities in some major roads in Quezon City and Pasig City.

Navarro said the affected roads in Quezon City will include the southbound direction of Epifanio delos Santos Avenue before Dario Bridge; the fifth lane of Commonwealth Avenue northbound from Litex Road to Doña Carmen; the second lane of B. Bernardino Street to T. Urbano in Quirino Highway; the third lane of Congressional Avenue Extension from Tandang Sora Avenue to Luzon Avenue; and the second lane of Mindanao Avenue northbound direction from Old Sauyo Road to Mindanao Tunnel.

Road works will likewise be undertaken in the southbound direction of C-5, Pasig City before Lanuza Avenue.

Affected motorists are advised to take alternate routes due to the expected buildup at the construction areas which will be reopen  on Monday, May 15, 2017.
