Sandiganbayan gives go-signal to proceed with Junjun Binay’s trial

The Sandiganbayan has ruled that there exists a probable cause to charge Former Makati Mayor Erwin ‘Junjun’ Binay with graft and falsification of public documents.

This is in connection with the construction of the allegedly overpriced Makati car park building that was worth P 2.2 billion.

The anti-graft court said, Binay should be tried because as head of the procuring body, it was his job to assess the documents presented by the Bids and Awards Committee.

The Sandiganbayan also noted that the printing in ‘Balita’ newspaper of the invitation to bid for the project seems to have been superimposed by a Sudoku game.

Trial for the cases against Binay has been set to May 18, 2017.

It did not find the need to issue an arrest warrant for the former mayor and his co-accused since they had previously posted bail.
