The newly-created Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) has begun its recruitment process.

In a press conference at the PNP Headquarters in Camp Crame, PDEG Chief Senior Supt. Graciano Mijares said, 54 operatives have been signed up.

He said, his group is allowed to have 477 personnel.

This is the first time Mijares faced a media briefing as head of PDEG.

He said his group intends to catch well-known drug personalities.

“We are focusing on high-value targets,” he said.

The creation of PDEG signals the resumption of the PNP’s campaign against illegal drugs.

Aside from PDEG based in Camp Crame, PNP Chief Ronald Dela Rosa also plans to form 5 District Drug Enforcement Units (DDEU) and 18 Regional Drug Enforcement Units (DDEU) across the country.
