SAN BEDA swept both the juniors and seniors general championships to emerge the most dominant team of the NCAA Season 92 that officially ended yesterday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The Lions raked in 683 points on wins in basketball, chess, men’s taekwondo, women’s table tennis, men’s and women’s swimming and football to edge St. Benilde, which ended up second with 647 points on triumphs in men’s volley, women’s taekwondo, men’s table tennis and men’s lawn tennis.

San Beda clinched the title by finishing second in women’s beach volleyball in Subic last month that cushioned the impact of a ninth place performance in centerpiece athletics at the Philsports Complex in Pasig City last week.

It was the Lions’ second overall crown and fifth overall.

“We’re very happy, it’s a proud accomplishment for the whole San Beda community,” said Management Committee chair Jose Mari Lacson of host San Beda.

“We invested in other sports not just the events we’re strong at. We hope to keep on improving year after year. We also put emphasis in indoor and beach volleyball,” he added.

Arellano U  finished third overall with 590 points while Lyceum of the Phl U (444.5), Perpetual Help (384.5), Letran (367), Mapua (301.5), San Sebastian (300), Emilio Aguinaldo (299) and Jose Rizal (172.5) rounded up the top 10.

The Cubs, for their part, needed to thread through the proverbial eye of the needle by edging the Arellano U Junior Chiefs, 405-397.5, to nail their fifth straight general crown while becoming the school with most general championships with 13, one ahead of St. Benilde.

Letran wound up at No. 3 with 352.5 points while rounding up the top 10 were LPU (278), EAC (271.5), St. Benilde (244), San Sebastian (229), Perpetual Help (188), Jose Rizal (102.5) and Mapua (102).
