NATIONS from the Southeast Asian region will again come together to celebrate the spirit of competition and unity when Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia hosts the biennial SEA Games in August.

Philippine Chief of Mission Cynthia Carrion of gymnastics just arrived from a meeting among member countries as organizers finalized the details of the Games last hosted by Malaysia in 2001, when it became overall champion.

“The competitions and event have been laid out and now we are getting ready with our athletes,” said Carrion, who brought with her an image of the KL Games’ official mascot.

Philippine Chef de Mission Cynthia Carrion shows off an image of the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games mascot, Rimau.

Named Rimau, the mascot is inspired by the graceful yet powerful Malayan Tiger.

“Rimau is gracious, friendly, competitive and athletic. Most importantly, Rimau is a true athlete,” according to the official website of the Kuala Lumpur 2017. “Rimau stands for respect, integrity, move, attitude and unity.”

The organizers also recently unveiled the Games’ logo based on Malaysian symbol Wau Bulan, a moon-kite synonymous with the east coast states of the country.

“Graceful, beautiful, powerful and rising high above, the Wau establishes itself as something that uniquely represents the transcendent power of sports. “

The theme of the Games is “Rising Together”, signifying the coming of age for Southeast Asia as a united community.
