National Irrigation Administration (NIA) head Peter Laviña announces on his official Facebook account that he has resigned.

Laviña says, there are rumors that he had accepted money from contractors for government projects and he refutes these allegations.

He further states, he is quitting his post so as not to aggravate negative attacks against officials of the Duterte administration.

He explains, one need not be a government official to serve the people.

Laviña had served as spokesperson for Duterte during the campaign leading to the 2016 presidential elections.

He was appointed NIA Administrator in November last year.

He had said his goal was to provide free irrigation services to farmers.
