THE success and future of the Philippine National Games lies in the participation and cooperation of the barangays and the local government units.

Philippine Sports Commission chairman William “Butch” Ramirez said this as the government sports agency goes into a meeting with Department of Interior and Local Government secretary Ismael Sueno.

Ramirez said they are seeking the revival and implementation of executive order 63, which was passed in 1993 and creates the national, provincial, city, municipal and barangay fitness and sports development councils.

“We are planning to have a meeting on the basis that we are trying to revive its structure, not only at the national level, but also in the provinces and the cities,” said Ramirez.

The PSC chief said the grassroots program that the agency is implementing will not be realized without the commitment of the LGUs.

This February, a regional training center will rise up in the province of Davao del Norte.

Ramirez said this will start their effort in helping strengthen the development of athletes in the regions and at the grassroots level.

The center will be set with the support of Davao del Norte governor Anthony del Rosario.

He said the training center will focus on developing athletes at the scientific level.
