PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has approved the promotion of Major General Carlito Galvez Jr. as commander of the Western Mindanao Command based in Zamboanga City.

Major Felimon Tan Jr., Wesmincom spokesman, said the turnover of command on Wednesday will be presided by Armed Forces Chief of Staff Gen. Eduardo Año.

Galvez, a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Sandiwa” Class 1985, is the outgoing commander of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division based in Maguindanao.

He will replace Lieutenant General Mayoralgo dela Cruz (PMA “Matikas” Class ’83), who will be transferred to the Office of the Inspector General based in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

Galvez hails from Bulacan but has extensive experience in handling armed conflict especially Muslim issues in Mindanao. He was the former deputy commander for Peace Process of the WesMinCom from July 2, 2014 to Oct. 1, 2015.
