He also says, his province sustained huge damage from typhoon “Nina” that struck on Christmas day.

“Napakalakas na hangin ang binigay nya, almost 200 kph. Sa lakas ng hangin, ang electric posts, punong kahoy, school buildings, light houses, tumba lahat (The wind was too strong, almost at 200 kph. Electric posts, trees, school buildings and light houses all fell to the ground)."

Sarmiento says, no storm surge occurred because the tide was low.

Despite the devastation, no one was killed in Catanduanes in the wake of “Nina.”

“As of today, zero casualty ang Catanduanes dahil sa pre-disaster activities na ginawa ng mga mayor natin (Catanduanes is zero casualty because of pre-disaster activities done by our mayors),” the lawmaker explains.

He adds, three C-130 planes have arrived in Catanduanes carrying relief goods.

Destruction caused by the typhoon has also caused interruption in the water supply of the province.
