In July 2013, I had the chance to interview Sheryl Lynn Callister, a Filipino-Dutch beauty queen who visited the country to orient Philippine bet for Mrs. Globe 2014. At the same time, she was promoting her foundation committed to helping impoverished children.

Sheryl Lynn represented the Netherlands at Miss World in Poland in 2006, and, in 2013, she was crowned as the international winner of Mrs. Globe in the United States.

As a young girl, Sheryl Lynn already knew what challenges young children in Leyte are confronted with. Since she was three, she and her family regularly visited the Philippines to reconnect with her mother’s roots (she was born to a Dutch father and a Filipino mother from Leyte).

At 23, she decided to establish a Philippine-based non-government organization focused on helping Filipino children attain quality education. She aptly called it Sheryl Lynn Foundation (SLF). Since then, SLF has been giving scholarships, providing school supplies and helping build classrooms and schools in various parts of Leyte.

Now, still with a flawless complexion and exudes sophistication, above and beyond the usual tale of the tape – tall, graceful and having a striking figure – Sheryl Lynn sets foot in Manila again to take on a more fabulous and exciting endeavor.

Back in the Netherlands, the 5-foot-9 beauty is a celebrated DJ and she’s here to give locals a taste of her music and launch a career as a DJ (of course) in a place she calls her “second home.”

On Thursday night, Sheryl Lynn was at the DJ booth of House Manila to spin some familiar tracks and formally dive into Manila’s clubbing scene.

“I’ve been deejaying for a little over a year now. I’ve been dancing all my life that’s why I consider this as something really exciting to do,” she told the author right after her set.

She studied in a DJ school in the Netherlands and was inspired by her husband to finally do something different.

“I live in an artist’s neighborhood. We have our own studio at home so I find it easy for me to perfect the skill. In the beginning I wanted to be a dancer and wanted to be on the dance floor. My husband kept on telling me that in DJing, I get to decide the kind of music you want to perform,” Sheryl Lynn shared.

It took her quite some time to finally agree to her husband. She was busy with her foundation and she’s just recently finished a degree in Anthropology.

“Well, after my studies I decided that I’m going to invest in entertainment industry because it is more suiting for me especially for my foundation. It can be a nice platform to make people aware of the things that I do,” she shared.

The statuesque beauty, known in the industry for her wonderful production of House, Future House and Progressive/Big Room with a touch of Trap and Future Bass, loves to define her sound as something “from the heart” which people of all ages can enjoy listening to. Through her music and her vast experience performing across Europe and US, DJ Sheryl Lynn frequently headlines various international events.

“I am very excited to launch my career in the Philippines. Manila is fast becoming one of Asia’s coolest cities with its vibrant nightlife and exciting new clubs, bars and lounges. It just seems right to be a part of it,” the female DJ stated.

Sheryl Lynn is a resident DJ in Amsterdam Fashion Week and regularly spinning at Bar Rhythms and Jaz Hotel, Westergasfabriek and Westerliefde. This year, she also performed live during the Miss World America in Washington DC.

Apart from being a celebrity DJ in glamorous events, Sheryl Lynn also showcases wonderful streams of music through her online radio show, Heartbeat Radio. Several episodes of which are quick to earn the top spot in various music charts including the renowned Dutch House Chart. She also produces her own original house tracks together with her husband Andy Callister who is also a DJ and producer for over 20 years.

Her greatest influencers are her parents: her Filipino mother was in a dance group while her Dutch father was in a band and is a huge collector of vinyls and CDs. Her zeal for house music comes with being Dutch. Growing up, she was surrounded with house music all her life, it being one of the main genres in the music industry in the Netherlands, a country that is also the no. 1 DJ country in the world.
