Clark hosts Powerman Duathlon World Series

THE world’s best multi sport athletes are coming to see action in the 2016 Maybank Powerman Philippines Duathlon World Series.

The presence of two-time world champion Gael de Belec is expected to make competition interesting when action begins this weekend at the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga.

Powerman Philippines chairman Raymond Magdaluyo said days before action starts on Saturday.

“We’re bringing in the best of the best in duathlon. We want to provide inspiration to people who want to get into the sport,” said Magdaluyo during a presentation last Monday at the Prive Luxury Club inside The Fort in Taguig.

Magdaluyo talked about the competition with Maybank CEO International Pollie Sim and Owen Gan, president of Powerman Philippines.

Three-time world champion Emma Pooley is also coming over to compete in the women’s division, along with promising world contender Miriam Van Reijen of The Netherlands.

Local bets include John Chicano, Emmanuel Commendador and August Benedicto.

They will all take part in the standard race, which is a 10-km run, 60-km bike and 10-km run event.

Medals will also be at stake in the Powerman Short, which is a 5-km run-30km bike-5km run competition.

Then’s there’s Powerteens event, which is for teens aged 13 to 19, and another one for kids aged 6-12.

The race will also serve as a qualifier or the Powerman Duathlon World Championships, which will be held in Zofingen, Switzerland in 2017.
