THE 21-year-old daughter of Department of Environment and Natural Resources Assistant Secretary Rommel Abesamis filed on Tuesday a formal case of sexual harassment against an Uber car driver before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.

Mary Kathleen Anne Abesamis, a fourth-year college student in an exclusive school for girls, sued one Juanito for violation of “An Ordinance Providing for a City Gender and Development Code and for Other Purposes to Harmonize with the Provisions of Republic Act No. 9710, otherwise known as “The Magna Carta of Women and to Adopt the United Nations Women’s Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces Initiative.”

She was accompanied by her father, a former councilor, and their lawyer, Ariel Enrile Inton, also a former local legislator and board member of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.

Despite the lack of cooperation of the mobile-app based transport network vehicle services to identify Juanito’s full name, the Abesamis family is determined to pursue a case.

Earlier, at a media briefing, the older Abesamis said he called up the Uber services for his daughter who was about to go to school at Miriam College on Nov. 3 at around 1 p.m.

Upon riding the private car, Juanito asked her too many offensive questions, and even invited her to watch a movie for a date.

The DENR official said Juanito even threatened the life of his son, who called him up to defend his sister from Juanito’s supposed harassment.
