DAVAO CITY—The 18th City council has questioned the National Housing Authority for the quality of houses it built in Los Amigos, Tugbok here.

Councilor Bonifacio Militar said the houses the NHA built in the area purchased by the 15th city council for the relocation of informal settlers was too small and looked like a “dog house.”

Each house measures 42 sq meters big and cost P139,000.

Militar said: “The house is too small, it’s like a dog house. Under low cost housing per unit is P420,000 if you will compare it with the house the NHA built; it is really too small, especially for a big family.”

He said members of the 18th council unanimously decided the housing facility the NHA built was not livable.

Militar also questioned the sudden change of mind of the NHA wherein they asked the city government to take over the construction and they would only provide the money.

He said the city government of Davao had signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the P20 million worth of houses in which the city would shoulder the area cost while the NHA would take on the construction cost.

Militar said they did not agree with the new suggestion of the NHA since it was far different from their first agreement.

“The initial amount they have released is P10 million for the first wave of construction wherein it targeted to finish 100 houses,” Militar said.

He added around 65 houses were completed by the NHA and questioned whether there was still money left from the initial P10 million budget.

The NHA recently released the other P10 million for the construction of an additional 200 houses in the same area.

However, the construction was put on hold pending resolution of some issues.
