The Department of Public Works and Highways has cleared all national highways, particularly those leading to public and private cemeteries, from obstructions and potholes in preparation for the observance of All Saints’ Day.

The program is meant to ensure the safety of motorists expected to flock major roads this coming long weekend, the department said.

All DPWH-District Engineering Offices have implemented various highway routine maintenance activities on major routes, which include re-gravelling; road, bridge, shoulder, drainage, and vegetation-control maintenance; and traffic service maintenance, particularly the provision of proper informative and regulatory warning signs or traffic advisories.

DPWH will also reactivate its motorist assistance program dubbed as “Lakbay Alalay” starting 5 p.m. on October 28 until 12 noon of November 2.

Hundreds of “Lakbay Alalay” teams will be deployed nationwide along strategic locations to aid the traveling public round-the-clock.

“These teams shall assist roadside concerns of motorists joining the All Saints’ Day rush. They shall also coordinate with the Land Transportation Office, Philippine National Police, and officials of local government units if they require assistance from the maintenance teams of the DPWH, likewise if DPWH necessitates their services,” the DPWH said.

“Early roadwork constructions will be announced by DPWH implementing offices to guarantee that proper scheduling of road works and installation of necessary traffic advisory will be made,” the department added.
