LINGAYEN—The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas conferred two ‘eagle’ awards to the provincial government of Pangasinan in recognition of its contributions to the bank’s currency program and support for the BSP public information campaign.

The two awards, Outstanding Regional Partner of BSP Dagupan branch for the demonetization of new design series and Outstanding Regional Partner the conduct of Public Information Campaigns, were received by Executive Assistant IV Ramon Morden, on behalf of Gov. Amado Espino III, during the 2016 Awards Ceremony and Appreciation Lunch for BSP Stakeholders (Region I and Cordillera Administrative Region) at the BSP La Union regional office.

The eagle awards were dedicated particularly to the Liga ng mga Barangay Provincial Federation, previously led by then-board member Espino, who successfully convened about 1,400 village chiefs and other stakeholders in the province on four phases of a public information campaign to advance the programs and advocacies of BSP last year.

The BSP public information campaign among barangay leaders, which formed part of the National Statistics Month celebration of the provincial government, focused on lectures on New Design Series (NDS) demonetization, New Generation Currency (NGC) familiarization, clean note policy, and discussion on the different kinds of fraud and scams.

During the awarding ceremony, Diwa Guinigundo, the BSP deputy governor on monetary stability, thanked stakeholders for supplying information needed by the BSP in monetary and financial policy formulation.

“The stakeholders are being recognized and awarded with the eagle because they have been providing us with the very critical information that gives us the idea of what is happening on the ground,” Guinigundo said.

Meanwhile, Ma. Lourdes Manaois, BSP Dagupan branch head of Economic and Financial Learning Center, noted that the support the Liga ng mga Barangay Provincial Federation has extended to the BSP has strategically processed the information they needed to cascade their programs down to barangays.

“They are very participative and supportive of our lectures,” Manaois said as she added that some village chiefs have asked them to bring their public information campaign in their barangays.

The BSP completed its public information campaigns in city and municipal LGUs in the province from 2014 to 2015.

Other awardees from Pangasinan include: Era Gas Corp. (Business Expectation Survey-Outstanding Respondent among small firms) and Metro Dagupan Cycling Club Inc. (Advocacy Support on Coin Recirculation).
