THE Adamson Lady Falcons were dragged by the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses in five sets and pulled off a 25-22, 25-21, 20-25, 28-30, 16-14 win Wednesday in the 78th University Athletic Association of the Philippines women’s volleyball tournament at the Philsports Multipurpose Arena in Pasig City.

A block from Mylene Paat and Mary Joy Dacoron, and an ace by Jessica Galanza allowed the Lady Falcons to break a 14-all deadlock and the set’s second match point.

Galanza went on to lead the Lady Falcons with 28 points in their 2-hour contest with the Tigresses.

Coach Sherwin Meneses praised the team for being able to survive a long encounter with the Tigresses, who denied the Lady Falcons a three-set win by taking the third and fourth sets.

The Lady Falcons missed their chance to take the third set outright when UST fought back from 17-20 down.

UST had an 8-0 run with a couple of hits from Chlodia Cortez and EJ Laure’s attack.

In the fourth set, UST forced five match points, and took the last two points behind Mildred Dizon’s kill and Laure’s placement shot past Dacoron.

“Iyung break napunta sa amin. Ang mahalaga, naramdaman nila ang ginagawa naming conditioning. Nag-5 sets kami na dapat hindi ka napapagod,” said Meneses.

The Lady Falcons are now in the early lead with defending champion Ateneo Lady Eagles and the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons, who won their opening matches last Sunday.
