The Metro Manila Development Authority on Friday announced the resumption of road reblocking and other repairs along major thoroughfares in Pasig City and Quezon City this weekend.
MMDA chairman Emerson Carlos said the Department of Public Works and Highways will undertake road reblocking and repairs starting 11 p.m. Friday until Jan. 18, at the following areas:
• First southbound lane of Service Road between Aurora Boulevard and P. Tuazon Street in Quezon City.
• Second northbound outermost lane of Circumferential Road–5 (C-5 Road) in front of SM Warehouse Gate 2 in Pasig City, and
• First northbound lane of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue in front of the DPWH–Second Engineering District Office, also in Quezon City.
Carlos gave the permission to continue the road works after DPWH-National Capital Region director Melvin Navarro asked the MMDA a go signal for maintenance purposes. He added motorists are advised to avoid the affected areas and use alternate routes instead.
“All affected roads will be fully passable by 5 a.m. on Monday,” he said.
Last week, the DPWH also conducted road repairs along the first southbound lane of Edsa between Mother Ignacia Street and Eugenio Lopez; northbound outermost lane of C-5 Road from Shell Gas Station to SM Warehouse Gate 2, and second northbound lane of Edsa fronting the DPWH-SED Office.
Carlos urged the DPWH to monitor contractors who reportedly work beyond their approved schedules, stressing that delays cause inconvenience to the public.
Last month, the MMDA imposed a two-week moratorium on road diggings and excavations in the metropolis in anticipation of the heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic during the holiday travel rush.
The temporary stoppage of road works, totaling 146 all around Metro Manila, was implemented from Dec. 14, 2015 up to midnight of Jan. 3.
