Lady Stags shoot for 3rd straight win, share of 2nd

San Sebastian College guns for a third straight victory and a piece of second spot as it tackles an unpredictable Jose Rizal University today in the women’s division of the 94th NCAA volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

The Lady Stags entered the Holiday Season break riding the crest of back-to-back victories over the Letran Lady Knights, 25-22, 25-16, 25-22, and the Emilio Aguinaldo Lady Generals, 25-19. 25-20, 26-24, to jump back into the magic four with a 4-1 (win-loss) card, which was good for joint third with the St. Benilde Lady Blazers.

It made up for a faulty start for SSC, which struggled in a five-set win over Lyceum of the Philippines University and Mapua and was destroyed by unbeaten reigning titlist Arellano University in a 15-25, 16-25, 12-25 defeat.

Now Roger Gorayeb’s charges will have a chance to improve to a share of second with San Beda (5-1) with a win in their 12-noon match with JRU, which is currently at No. 6 with a 3-3 mark and seeking to keep its Final Four bid alive.

Also seeing action are Emilio Aguinaldo (0-5) and Mapua (0-6), which take on each other at 2 p.m. eyeing their very first triumph.

Jostling for Final Four berths in the men’s division were EAC (3-2) and Mapua (2-3), which face off 4 p.m. and SSC (2-3) and JRU (2-3), which collide at 10 a.m.
