A Grade Two teacher from Laguna won a Chery Tiggo 2 five-seater crossover car, the grand prize in the recent virtual “Grand Gathering” of Gabay Guro, PLDT-Smart Foundation’s flagship education program.

Chery Auto Philippines is under United Asia Automotive Group, Inc. (UAAGI), which has been working with PLDT-Smart Foundation since 2014 by providing mobility solutions, also through FOTON Philippines.

The winner, whose identity is being withheld, has been teaching general subjects like English, Filipino, Math and Araling Panlipunan for 13 years.

She thanked Gabay Guro not only for the car but also “for making all teachers feel special by celebrating us through the Gabay Guro Grand Gathering.” The event drew 500,000 live viewers.

“Not all teachers have access to private transportation, that’s why our team is delighted to help change a life for the better through this sponsorship,” said UAAGI and Chery Auto Philippines President Rommel Sytin. He also thanked PLDT-Smart Foundation for trusting the company.

Gabay Guro Chairperson Chaye Cabal-Revilla emphasized how much PLDT and Smart employees value the roles they play as Gabay Guro volunteers. “Our teachers hold a special place in our hearts. They play a critical role in our children’s holistic development as the youth becomes the hope of our future. In Gabay Guro, it is our greatest pleasure and privilege to uplift the lives of our teachers nationwide,” she said.

Also present at the turnover were Alvin Lu and Ferdinand Lasan, Chery Auto Philippines VP for Dealer Development and External Affairs and VP for Sales and Marketing, respectively.

Gabay Guro is a 14-year-old program that has been supporting teachers across the country through scholarships, training, classroom donations, livelihood programs, connectivity and computerization, tributes and digital innovations. It reinforces PLDT and Smart’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly UN SDG #4 Quality Education.
