Manila, Makati, Pasig, Iloilo City, Bataan, La Union, Baguio City, Zamboanga, Pangasinan, Batangas, and Pampanga are just some of the 266 key areas that are working to harness the power of improved connectivity for their constituents. “We were able to work with these cities and provinces because the local government understood the importance of connectivity for their constituents, especially at this time when communication is vital for the people,” said Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu.

Connectivity in cities and localities which have been equipped with infrastructure has improved their digital capabilities. With these LGUs’ commitment to work closely with the telco industry, Globe is able to ensure proper and safe infrastructure set-up to power their communication needs.

Makati City Mayor Abby Binay has paved the way to improve connectivity and pioneering financial inclusion for its constituents. Since 2017, Makati has employed GCash QR codes for micro small medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) such as Jollijeeps, sari-sari stores and some of the city’s transport systems. “It’s a big help for both the city and its residents not only because it’s a faster way of transferring money for everyday use, but also because it promotes public health by avoiding physical contact,” said Binay.  Globe was able to provide GoWiFi to 27 barangay health centers, inside the Makati City Hall and the University of Makati, providing better WiFi experience for Makati constituents.

In Manila, connectivity has made possible free access to online learning platforms for public school students. “We hope that through this initiative and with Globe’s relentless service, more public school students and teachers can maximize digital tools to create conducive and safe learning environments,” said Manila Mayor ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso.

In Iloilo, Mayor Jerry Treñas expressed the city’s readiness to work with the telco company, “Under the new normal, education will be partly through online. We will work with Globe and other stakeholders to improve the internet capability of schools and also the barangays, so that no student will be left behind once the classes start,” Treñas said.

Bataan is another exemplary case of LGU support paving the way for improved connectivity in the province.  It also partnered with GCash  to streamline the processing, and approval of its Social Amelioration Program (SAP) for its constituents, which helped  limit personal transactions amidst the pandemic.

Globe recently released its 2Q20 financial results and reiterated its commitment to push forward with its network builds for the rest of the year despite the pandemic.
