Because of the increasing number of Novel Coronavirus cases, many hospitals in Metro Manila are now operating at maximum capacity.

Healthcare resources are also quickly running out. There is a need now to shift the first line of defense from our doctors and nurses to our families and communities.

The members of Public Health Communications Advisory Network (PHCAN) are driving a social movement to buy more time by communicating critical and verified public health messages on COVID-19 to families, so they can care for their loved ones during these challenging times.

“Everyone is called to do our part in curbing the spread of the virus, and for us, the journey begins in our homes,” said Dr. Iris Isip-Tan, member of PHCAN and the internist-endocrinologist behind Endocrine Witch, a Facebook page that offers information on diabetes, goiter, and other hormonal disorders. “We want to empower families with information to protect and safeguard their health and well-being from inside their homes and communities.”

PHCAN is an official partner of the Department of Health and is composed of doctors and healthcare professionals, dedicated to empowering families and communities with information on COVID-19. The network also includes professionals from different sectors, including communications and the public sector.

In support of the mission to buy more time for the country’s healthcare workers, PHCAN will be holding an FB Live session this Saturday, April 4, at 2 p.m., where Dr. Isip-Tan, together with her colleague and co-member Dr. Aileen Espina, will answer questions about how to fight against COVID-19 at the individual, family, and community level.

Follow the official PH CAN Facebook page for more updates.
