Nothing has ever changed the world as much as technology has today.

Over the years, technology has drastically changed the outlook and practices of a workplace and as a result, industries and markets have to keep up by changing the way they operate.

JLL, the Philippines’ leading property consultant, is very well aware that it has to delve into the changing work landscape created by technology advancements to remain relevant in the future.

This is the main reason why JLL came up with a research named Future of Work to analyze the changing dynamics of a workplace as well as its impact on corporate real estate. JLL has to delve with this new outlook to help clients for their forthcoming projects.

According to Susan Sutherland, Head of Corporate Solutions Research, Asia Pacific, as they talked to their clients worldwide, they discovered that all of them are dealing on common concerns– the way the people work and lots of disruption, changes and uncertainties in the operating environment.

“There’s always change in an operating environment and these changes is accelerating due to technology and other factors,” she said.

Determining the workplace has a big impact on productivity, engagement of employees, competitiveness, as well as the reputation of an organization.

“The way a company uses a real estate is absolutely critical in making sure it’s fit for the future. New ways of looking at workplaces will also have a major impact on how our clients invest in real estate as they try to choose assets that meet the demands of forward thinking corporate occupiers. And developers will need to incorporate the changing needs of occupiers when designing the buildings of the future, integrating smart technology as part of infrastructure,” said Anthony Couse, CEO of JLL Asia Pacific.

Human experience, digital drive, continuous innovation, financial performance, and operational excellence- these are the five dimensions that the Future of Work developed to guide organizations and industries in determining their future workspace.

This will also help them to equip with the tools needed for them to adapt to changes and focus in achieving their own specific business goals.

BPO future

In the Philippines, BPO industries are key contributors to the growing demand for office space, and will also benefit greatly from Future of Work. The future of the BPO sector is not immune to the changing times.

Due to several factors, 1.2 million-strong BPO workforce are now facing disruption. Many of the responsibilitiespreviously handled by humans in BPO centres are now being automated, resulting in a reduction of employees required to execute these tasks.

Meanwhile, BPO companies consistently have to keep their ships tight and prevent their highest skilled employees from seeking new and better place.

In addressing new demands in the world of real estate, JLL has strived to develop smart, collaborative and flexible workplaces here in the country so both their clients and customers can achieve their goals.

According to Jordi Martin, CEO of Corporate Solutions, JLL Asia Pacific, real estate was once about acquiring and managing buildings. Now it is a strategic lever for transformation.

Today’s workforce demands choice and flexibility which requires work environments beyond the traditional offices. Those that offer high-tech personalized tools and services that enhance the human experiences will stand out and attract the best in the war for talent.
