We’ve all seen green cars. But a green, environment-friendly phone?

Nokia X30 5G

Nokia’s latest offering, the Nokia X30 5G, is one.

Anywhere around the world, there is a niche market for such an advocacy, people caring for the environment and championing efforts to conserve and preserve our natural resources.

There is therefore a big fraction of the population that will be delighted with this latest Nokia offering.

As Nokia’s most eco-friendly smartphone, the X30 5G is made with 100 percent aluminum and 65 percent recycled plastic, aside from delivering the brand’s smallest eco-footprint to date.

The packing size is also reduced, made possible by the decision to remove chargers from the X-series to tackle e-waste (this saves on transportation CO2 emissions). And by using 100 percent FSC certified and 94 percent recycled paper box, Nokia phone makers HMD Global seeks to promote responsible forestry and support the circular economy.

But make no mistake about it. Even though it’s made with the care for the environment in mind, it does have a really premium feel to it, what with the aluminum parts and chamfered edges.

Plus, it brings premium features, including the best-ever PureView photography that Filipino fans will surely enjoy and love.

General overview

The Nokia X30 comes with a clean and pretty premium look despite the mid-range price tag. It combines some recycled aluminum along the edges of the smartphone and a very smooth matte plastic finish on the back.

It is water-resistant with a IP67 protection rating and has complete protection against dust. This means you can bring it out during your next trip to Boracay or La Union to enjoy the sun and the sea. Enjoy selfies and groupies during boat rides and kayaks with peace of mind. Just don’t go scuba-diving with it.

The Nokia XC30’s 6.43-inch AMOLED display has a 90 hertz (Pure Display) variable refresh rate, a really good feature at this price point, making watching Youtube videos and playing mobile games a smoother and more responsive experience.

Also, it does have a layer of Gorilla Glass Victus, which helps protect the phone.

The bezels are a bit big, but that is just a minor nitpick that doesn’t diminish its other features.

There is also a built-in fingerprint scanner that is ultra fast and and responsive, to go with face unlock as well.
Performance and software.

It has a Snapdragon 695 processor, leading to an overall good general performance. For the casual and moderate users that the Nokia X30 is targeting, it is more than capable for day-to-day usage, including moderate gaming.

The Nokia X30 is a phone meant for everyday use, for calls, writing emails, the occasional video viewing, sound-tripping and the like. It’ll get you through the day without any problems, and without the need to grab a charger in the middle of the day (Li-Po 4200 mAh, non-removable battery; charging speed is pretty good as well).

Night Mode

The X30 comes with a stock version of Android 12, upgradeable to Android 13, meaning it’s easy to learn and all of your favorite Google Play apps and games are included.

Camera

If there is, however, a feature where the Nokia X30 stands out, it’s with its camera performance, producing point-and-shoot photos with surprisingly good results, what with a nice balance of color and contrast even in low-light situations —thanks to its 50 MP PureView camera, which uses AI and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) to capture content in even higher detail. A 12MP ultrawide lens backs it up, while a16MP camera sits on the front for selfies, video calling, and face unlock support.

And then there’s the night mode. Ahh, those awesome night shots.

The night mode is where the X30 blows out its competition, producing very impressive, terrific photos, using its all-new, intuitive dropdown menu, giving users faster access to the most used camera settings, such as Night Mode 2.0, with Dark Vision, Tripod Mode, and Night Selfie.

Night Shot

So if you are going to be partying in some bar or events place until the wee hours of the morning, the Nokia X30 is your perfect companion to document all the fun.

The only bummer with the X30 is that you can’t shoot 4k videos, but then again, social media (FB, youtube) will most likely downgrade your videos anyway, for better uploading and faster play. But if all you’re after is a very good point-and-shoot camera for social media purposes, then the X30 is a very nice performer.

The Nokia X30 is a great improvement from past Nokia phones. It is a solid smartphone that does a little bit of everything better, specially if taking photos is your thing. And it’s a perfect reminder that we all have a part in caring for our planet. That alone, makes the Nokia X30 a cut above the rest.
