Andrew Lim Tan’s booming career in the business industry proves that success and growth only come through continuous hard work and determination.

As one of Southeast Asia’s richest businessmen, Tan continues to loom large in real estate and development sectors. The tycoon’s desire to establish the Megaworld Corporation has created a whole paradigm in business, providing a blueprint on how to become a dominant leader in the industry.

Aside from his stint as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Megaworld Corporation, Tan also showcases professionalism in various sectors of the business industry, bagging several awards in the process. 

Here are 10 fast facts about Andrew Tan.

1. He is the CEO of AGI for 12 years

Mr. Tan served as the Chief Executive Officer of Alliance Global Group Inc. from September 2006 to June 4, 2018. Alliance Global Group Inc. is a holding company that has interest in food and beverage, real estate, and gaming. AGI also recorded a 14 percent increase in revenue last year, from P141.3 billion to P160.7 billion under Tan’s leadership.

2. He is Chairman as well as President of seven real estate firms

Megaworld Land, Megaworld Globus Asia, Richmonde Hotel Group International Limited, Megaworld Newport Property Holdings, Mactan Oceanview Properties & Holdings and Yorkshire Holding are the corporations where Mr. Tan serves as Chairman and President.

3. He serves on the boards of 11 corporations

Mr. Tan is a member of the board of directors of Eastwood Cyber One Corp., Megaworld Cayman Islands, Forbes Town Properties & Holdings, Gilmore Property Marketing Associates, Eastwood Cyber One Corp., Megaworld Central Properties, Raffles and Company, the Andresons Group, and Consolidated Distillers of the Far East, Townsquare Development and The Bar Beverage.

4. He also serves as the Chairman and treasurer of three firms

Golden Arches Development Corp. operates in the quick-service restaurant business, particularly as a McDonald’s GADC exclusive franchise owner in the Philippines, where Mr. Tan serves as its Chairman and Treasurer. He is also Chairman/Treasurer of Golden Arches Realty Corp., while also serving as the Director and Treasurer of Andersons Global.

5. He was named “Businessman of the Year”

In 2004, the Quezon City government named Mr. Tan as “Businessman of the Year” in recognition of his visionary leadership as he was able to transform Eastwood City into a “magnet of investments,” making it a dynamic growth center in Quezon City.

6. A recipient of the Global Excellence Award

The International Chamber of Commerce Philippines also bestowed on the tycoon the Global Excellence Award during the 42nd Philippine Business Conference in 2016. The award recognized Tan for raising the bar of Philippine business to compete locally and internationally, helping the nation to achieve growth and development.

7. He led the 2016 Tourism Personality Awardees

In 2016, the Alliance Global Group, Inc. Chairman was also named as the year’s leader in Integrated Tourism enterprise—the highest recognition given by SKAL International Makati during its 26th Tourism Personality Awards.

8. He was awarded Spain’s highest civil honor

Tan’s numerous personal investments in Emperador have also led to his strengthened relationship with Spain. The Spanish Government awarded Mr. Tan the highest civil honor in Spain and welcomed him as the newest member of the Orden del Mérito Civil and was given the title Ilustrísimo or Honorable.

9. He was named as first Property Guru Icon Award recipient

Mr. Tan was named the Philippine Real Estate Personality of the Year award in 2014. Tan and his team earned three consecutive Best Developer titles from 2016 to 2018. He was also cited for being a champion of corporate social responsibility programs through the Megaworld Foundation and Empire East Cares. He also won the Special Recognition in CSR at the 2018 Property Guru Philippines Property Awards, labelling him as the “Filipino-Chinese billionaire who is a champion in smart townships and CS.”

10. Most Outstanding Alumnus of UE

Mr. Tan was selected by his alma mater University of the East, C.M. Recto Campus as its Most Outstanding Alumnus, citing his outstanding achievements in business and social responsibility. The university also cited Megaworld Foundation, which he established, for its initiatives, as the corporation supports over 400 outstanding but underprivileged scholars in 21 universities.
