Haggerty scores 2 knockdowns, crushes Naito

Former ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Jonathan “The General” Haggerty delivered the goods at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and found himself back on the hunt for gold.

Haggerty was sensational, scoring two knockdowns resulting in a breezy unanimous decision win over Taiki “Silent Sniper” Naito in the main event of the previously recorded ONE: BIG BANG II, which aired last Friday, 11 December.

The first knockdown came with less than a minute remaining in the first round; Haggerty landed a booming overhand right to counter Naito’s kick and sent the Japanese athlete to the canvas.

Picking up where he left off in the first round, Haggerty scored another knockdown early in the second as he feigned left before hitting “Silent Sniper” with a thunderous right hook.

Knowing he was behind on the scorecards, Naito did put pressure on the Englishman in the final stanza, but the knockdowns in the first two rounds were too much for him to overcome as Haggerty cruised to a comfortable decision win.

It was a huge victory for Haggerty, who came into the bout off back-to-back losses to reigning ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon.

A few more wins could put him back under the charismatic Thai’s radar.

In the co-main event, Nieky “The Natural” Holzken didn’t take long to dispatch Elliot “The Dragon” Compton.

Holzken dug deep and was rewarded in a big way as he scored a 96-second body-punch knockout of the Australian.

The top-ranked contender in the ONE Super Series kickboxing lightweight division set up his left hook to the body well, using a right uppercut to open up Compton before connecting with the devastating left to the body, which sent Compton crumbling down, unable to get up.
