Fil-American defender Hali Long is recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury and will most likely see action when the ASEAN Football Federation Women’s Championship Qualifiers is held in Manila later this year.

Long said during a podcast that being in home quarantine back home in Arkansas gave her enough time to rest and recover.

“I’ve been home kind of not by choice because I actually got a surgery which I haven’t talked about at all. But it was like a sustained injury a few years ago and I just kept playing on it so I got that taken care of, kind of before everything went really bad,” said the 25-year-old Long, who has been in crutches ever since.

The national squad made it to the semifinals, before bowing to eventual champion Vietnam, 0-2.

“I’ve just been staying home because I’m on crutches, so I don’t wanna really leave anyways. I have nothing else to do besides focus on my rehab which is really good,” added Long.

The AFF Women’s Championship Qualifiers were supposed to be hosted by the Philippines between May and June 2020.

But because of ongoing lockdown measures done to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, this was reset to another time. It could still be held later this year.

Long, on the other hand, is working on her endurance while waiting for word when the national team will resume practice.

“Endurance is hard right now, I’m working on very basic things but I’m finally levelling up my rehab I can do like the bike. So I do a little bit of cardio when I can but my workout is like my therapy session routine everyday,” added Long, who has been with the national squad for three years.

This will be the first time that the AFF Women’s Championship will be held in the country and the second senior women’s competition that the Philippines will host following the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
