A big donation of mattresses meant for medical frontliners and patients alike are reaching the right places.

Four hospitals and two medical research facilities located in Metro Manila and the Southern Luzon have gotten these beddings, forwarded by the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Swimming, Inc.

The mattresses will be useful as frontline medical workers deal with the difficulties arising from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Many of the donations, which were turned over last Wednesday, were forwarded by the PSI, through their president, Lailani Velasco.

Velasco said they had a total of 120 beddings, giving away 90 to the PSC.

The PSC, in turn, added 100 more, and they were sent to Manila Medical Center, Emilio Aguinaldo College Medical Center in Dasmarinas, Cavite, Dra. Fe del Mundo Medical Center and the Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City.

With a total of 190 beddings distributed, the mattresses have also found their way to Research Institute of Tropical Medicine in Muntinlupa, and the University of the Philippines Genome Center in Quezon City.

The donations were well-received, according to Dr. Susan Campos, the past president of ManilaMed, who sent her letter of acknowledgment to PSC chairman William Ramirez, and executive director Merly Ibay.

“The health workers in these institutions have opted to stay in-house, to conform to quarantine requirements and to avoid transportation difficulties. These mattresses will provide the exhausted frontliners some physical comfort when they have their rest periods,” said Dr. Campos.

Around 50 mattresses from the PSC went to the RITM while the other half are now in the UP Genome Center.

“Thanks to these mattresses, our health workers can give better care to COVID-19 patients by allowing them a place to rest,” said Velasco in her letter to Ramirez and Ibay.
