Members of the national shooting team will have to make do with the present condition of the Philippine Marine firing range in Ft. Bonifacio.
With the shooting range in bad state for more than a year, Asian Games-bound shooters, led by Jayson Valdez have been continuously training and preparing for the Asiad.
“Ire-request namin sa PSC. It’s been more than year already,” said newly-named Philippine National Shooting Association board member Ronaldo Hejastro.
Hejastro, who is the vice president for pistol sports, noted that inaccurate readings are being recorded at electronic targets in the 10-meter area.
This situation was only noticed last month.
It was also noted that the air-conditioning unit is also no longer functional for a year.
He said they will be requesting the Philippine Sports Commission to take care of the facility’s status once the Asiad is over.
The PNSA board, he added is also looking at other facilities where the national team can train as well.
So far, they have identified one inside the Ateneo de Manila campus, which students can also use as a firing range.
Joaquin Ancheta, Hagen Alexander Topacio and Amparo Teresa Acuna are among members of the national team to the Asiad who are training in the range.
