Miranda, 52 others reach BWC natl finals

VETERAN Raoul Miranda boosted his bid for a second consecutivelocal Bowling World Cup title by gaining a slot in the national finals after the recent first qualifying round.

Miranda rolled a 12-game series of 2430 pinfalls at Coronado (Starlanes) to tow 52 other bowlers—35 men and 17 women —into the national finals set on November 9, 10, 12, 13 and 15.

Joining Miranda in the first batch of finalists are:

Men—Rod Salamat, Duke Gregory Gella, Denis Jalandoon, Angel Dilig, Ronnie Javier, Ernesto Jacinto, Dante Molina, Dan Enriquez, Peter Lacanilao, Ralph Jularbal, Rejie Jularbal, Jerry Bugtong, Rudante Unay, Norman Lising, Kurt Mendoza, July Vargas, John Christopher Dee, Raul Imperial, GP Genciana, Weslie Yebra, Nil Buencamino, Andy Sta. Ana, Randal Go, Jason Tubid, Nicco Olaivar, Nestor Anonuevo, Janson “Red” Collantes, Paolo Jimeno, Allen Laigo, Ryan Romero, Marlon dela Cruz, Don Tungala, Edwin Rupido, Mon Camba and Jun Garcia.

Women—Arlena Bucao, Dhel Marquez, Leah Naorbe, Faye Piol, Joanne Bonifacio, Perla Pacheco, Amelyn Sisperez, Rochelle Munsayac, Alyssa dela Rosa, Pure Anselmo, Josefina Barachina, Sharon Lee, Bernadette Ipapo, Mercy delos Santos, Bea Camille Santarin, Jackie Sadua and Tonette Otayza.

Olaivar, a regular campaigner like Miranda, also sparkled in the first qualifying round by shooting 2523 in 12 games.

The second qualifying round is ongoing in 14 centers to determine the second batch of national finalists.

The men’s and women’s champions will earn the right to represent the Philippines in the 53rd BWC international finals slated on September 4 to 12 this year in Hermosillo, Mexico.  However, the winners have to be Philippine passport holders.

The male and female second-placers will receive trophies and gift checks worth P30,000 and P25,000, respectively; the third placers trophies and P20,000 and P15,000; fourth placers P10,000 and P7,500; fifth placers P6,000 and P4,500; sixth P5,000 and P4,000; seventh and eighth P4,000 and P3,500.
