Falcons soar past Wildcats for 2nd win

Adamson twice survived National College of Business and Arts’ gutsy stand as it hacked out a 25-23, 25-15, 25-23 victory to wrest control in Pool A in the Spikers’ Turf Season 4 Open Conference at the Paco Arena in Manila last Thursday.

The Falcons leaned on their superb court coverage to defuse the Wildcats’ superb blocking, clinching the 67-minute victory even with Royce Bello and George Labang emerging as the team’s top scorers with seven hits apiece.

But Carlo Jimenez, Geffrey Alicando and Francis Casas produced six points each and Adrian Viray and skipper Leo Miranda each chipped in five markers to underscore the team’s balanced scoring.

The victory came on the heels of the San Marcelino-based squad’s five-set escape over Emilio Aguinaldo College last week, putting Adamson in the early lead in Pool A of the four-division tournament featuring 24 teams.

NCBA drew 10 points from Baden Pabalate and came through with eight blocks, five more than the Falcons, but struggled with their hitting, posting just 23 attack points as against their rivals’ 36.

In other results, Eco Oil blasted Centro Escolar U, 25-18, 25-17, 25-19, in Pool B action while Sta. Lucia also came away with a straight-set win over Mapua U, 25-8, 25-19, 25-21, in Pool D play.

Meanwhile, PLDT faces San Sebastian at 1 p.m. while UST takes on Arellano at 3 p.m. and Emilio Aguinaldo tangles with NCBA at 5 p.m. in tomorrow’s (Sunday) resumption of the men’s volley hostilities.
