Yulo made his presence felt by advancing to the finals of three events at the Japanese Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Kitakyushu.

The 21-year-old Yulo took the lead in the men’s floor exercise with 15.166 points to advance to the finals on Saturday.

He likewise emerged as a frontrunner in the parallel bars (15.566), while finishing third in the vault prelims with 14.808 — with both events' finals happening on Sunday.

"I wanted to step up my game. I didn't want to make the same mistakes (as at the Olympics)," said Yulo in a statement on the tournament’s official website.

Yulo is in the company of  two reigning world champions, who had mixed fortunes.

Ibrahim Colak of Turkey qualified for the rings final in a three-way tie for third place.

On the other hand,  an error in his routine cost Arthur Nory Mariano of Brazil a place in the horizontal bar final.

Olympic champion Hashimoto Daiki of Japan overcame a strong challenge from China's Zhang Boheng to lead the qualifiers.

Daiki, who took the gold in Tokyo Olympics All-Around,  came up with  a commanding performance before a supportive Japanese crowd.

The 20-year-old Daiki  tallied 88.040 points and edged previous leader Zhang out of first place by 0.143.

In the women’s side, Angelina Melnikova of Russia, who was a member of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic team as a gold medallist, also  soared to the lead Tuesday as women’s qualification ended.
