Villanueva wins Racasa birthday online chess tournament

Former Adamson University standout Jerome Villanueva won the Robert Racasa Birthday Online Chess Celebration bullet tournament last Saturday, October 24, 2020.

Villanueva finished with 121 points in 42 games for a win rate of 83 percent and performance rating of 2581 to win the event that drew 281 players.

The event was presented by Lichess Battle Arena, organized by Bayanihan Chess Club and sponsored by Grandmaster of Memory Robert Racasa, godfather of Philippine Memory, and his wife Marife Berthe Murillo-Racasa.

The online tournament had time control of one minute and players must win as many games in two hours of play.

Rowel Roque took the second spot with 115 points on 46 games and a win rate of 80 percent for a performance rating of 2552. In third place is Andres Bautista who had 107 points on 58 games and a win rate of 64 percent for a performance rating of 2403.

Fide Master Jony Habla and International Master Egor Bogdanov of Ukraine finished fourth and fifth with 91 and 88 points, respectively.

Adjudged category winners were Allan Gabriel Hilario (top Kiddie boy 11 years old below), journalist Joey Villar of the Philippine Star (top PUP Alumni), Luis Genavia (top PUP), AGM Marlon Bernardino (top Media), Genghis Imperial (top Kaunlaran), Noel Jay Estacio (top Arayat), April Joy Abudancia Ramos and Cheryl Angot (top lady).
