NCAA may postpone games due to virus

Games of the National Collegiate Athletic Association could be postponed again.

Officials of the NCAA are set to meet following the latest development in the spread of the CoronaVirus (COVID-19)

“Mag-emergency meeting ang NCAA MANCOM tomorrow (Monday) regarding the latest development sa COVID-19,” said NCAA season 95 Mancom chairman Peter Cayco of host Arellano University.

So far, the Department of Health (DOH) reported two additional confirmed cases of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the Philippines, bringing the total of COVID-19 cases in the country to five.

 The fifth case is known to have regularly visited a Muslim prayer hall in Barangay Greenhills, San Juan City.

And NCAA holds most of its games in the FilOil-Flying V Sports Center in San Juan.

NCAA officials have been notified that classes in all levels in both public and private schools in the City of San Juan have been suspended.

And this to give time to all school officials to sanitize and disinfect their campuses and to put precautionary measures in place to prevent the spread of the COVID-19.

The NCAA is set to resume all of its sporting events on March 16 after implementing a suspension of activities recently amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Cayco said indoor volleyball, football, lawn tennis, and soft tennis are all expected to pick up where they left off on the said date.

There are still two remaining play dates in the elimination round of the men’s and women’s volleyball tournaments.

The matches between San Beda University and Lyceum of the Philippines, and College of St. Benilde and Mapua would have taken place February 14.

The clashes between St. Benilde and Arellano, which will decide the Final Four in the women’s division – as well as a pair of showdown between Letran and San Sebastian – would have been played last February 17.

Track and field is set to commence on March 16, while the Under-15 basketball and beach volleyball are set to start on April 25 and 29, respectively.

The season-ending cheerleading competition is scheduled to be held on March 30.
