The Philippine Azkals played Yemen to a scoreless draw on Wednesday in their Group B showdown in the third qualification round of the 2023 Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup at the MFF Stadium in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Both teams are tied for the lead of Group B, going into their next games on Saturday.
The Azkals battle host nation Mongolia at 12:30 p.m., while Yemen clashes with Palestine at 5 p.m.
Important saves from Azkals’ goalkeeper Neil Etheridge kept Yemen from scoring, and this included a final attempt in the 93rd minute.
The Philippines tried to score early in the second half, with Kenshiro Daniels almost sinking a header at the 58th minute off a corner kick. But Yemeni goalie Salem Gamal Al-Harsh caught the ball.
Bienvenido Marañon escaped from his defender in the 74th mark, but his attempt was quickly denied by the Yemeni goalkeeper.
